Allen Toussaint refers to Lil' Buck Sinegal as the "Gentle Giant"
of the guitar. You have probably heard Lil' Buck Sinegal but perhaps
you weren't aware of it. Sinegal is credited as a sideman on over
three hundred recordings in each decade since the 1950s and has played
thousands of concerts around the world. Some of the artists he recorded
with were Clifton Chenier, Buckwheat Zydeco, Rockin' Dopsie Sr. & Jr.,
Fernest Arceneaux, Katie Webster, Lazy Lester, Henry Gray, Paul Simon
(Graceland), Jumpin' Johnny and Wallace Johnson.
It wasn't until 1998 that a feature work of Sinegal's, "The
Buck Starts Here" was produced and released on the
NYNO label by Toussaint. Earlier, Toussaint had produced a project
for Wallace Johnson, a fine New Orleans vocalist, on which Sinegal
played guitar. Impressed by Sinegal, Toussaint approached Buck about
doing a feature CD project. The CD charted in Living Blues Magazine's
top 20 for several months in 1998. It introduced many blues fans and
critics to Sinegal's awesome talent.
This Lucky Cat Records' CD "Bad Situation"
allows Sinegal to give the world " the real him." "
The music on this CD is how I feel everyday," said Sinegal. He
pays tribute to his Chenier on "Highway Blues", BB King
on "Why I Sing the Blues", Albert King and Albert Collins
on the " Masters of the Blues" medley, and Eddie "Guitar
Slim" Jones on " I Done Got Over." The tune "Further
On Up the Road" is one of Sinegals's personal favorites. The
remaining tunes written by Sinegal are his Spirit and Soul voiced
and played from his heart. Sinegal will tell you that he can play
all types of music, but he feels the Blues every day.
